Worship at First UMC Golden is designed to help you experience God’s love for you, help you hear the call of Christ in your own life and open you to the power of the holy spirit to transform and shift. Pastor Susan usually does themed sermon series and her preaching is focused on how scripture speaks to our lives today: What difference does scripture and Jesus make to us living in the 21st Century?
The order of worship is fairly traditional with some twists to increase congregational engagement. Worship music includes our chancel choir on the first and third Sundays of the month and our Praise Band on the second and fourth Sundays. Worship attire is Colorado Casual. We worship in jeans, shorts, sundresses – almost anything goes here. We are more interested in welcoming you here than critiquing your clothing.
Pastor Susan loves children and their noise in worship, so please don’t feel shy about bringing your children if they are not quiet. We love children’s noises, it reminds us of new life. Children come into worship with their parents and are there for the first 15 minutes then after the time with young disciples, they go to Sunday school across the hall from the sanctuary. We have a hired helper who works primarily with our younger children and a teacher who works with the elementary children.
We have one worship service each week and that occurs at 10 am Sundays both in person and online. At Easter we do two services, an outdoor service at 8:30 AM (bring your own chair) and a service in the sanctuary at 10 AM. We also offer an Ash Wednesday worship service on Ash Wednesday (in 2024 it is February 14th) During Holy week we offer a Maundy Thursday Tenebrae service. In 2024 it will be Thursday, March 28 at 6:30 PM. On Christmas Eve we do two services, an outdoor service that is family focused at 4:30 PM and then a traditional Christmas Eve service at 7 pm in the sanctuary.
