Nago, Okinawa...
Harold was appointed pastor at the Nago Church -- which met in the
home of a war widow -- shortly after arriving in Okinawa.
However, Margaret and Harold lived in the city of Naha, Okinawa, where
a residence had been built for them.
This made for lengthy travel times given the condition of the roads
in post-war Okinawa.

In addition to pastoring at Nago, Harold also worked with the three Okinawan pastors serving the northern two-thirds of Okinawa at the time. Meanwhile, Margaret trained church school teachers, taught children and youth in church school and in English classes, played the small reed organs for worship in the churches that did not have an organist, and of course cared for the Rickard home and children. |

Doing what children do naturally, the Rickard children played
with the children of Okinawan neighbors -- and in so doing
often helped "open doors" to neighborhood homes.
