HERITAGE SUNDAY JULY 18, 1999 - 140 YEARS!

Above: Our 140th year congregation, July 18, 1999! The 140th Anniversary Celebration for Golden First UMC was a very special event! Pastor Youngsook Kang reenacted the very first service given by Rev. Jacob Adriance on July 4, 1859- although Adriance spoke in a 'Golden City' gambling tent! Youngsook even spoke from a whiskey barrel (although some of the congregation thought she'd stand ON the whiskey barrel as mistakenly reported by the Rocky Mountain News). Special guests were former Golden First UMC ministers Rev. Del Paulsen, Rev. Everett Matz, Rev. Eugene Worth, and Rev. Kenneth Moreland, as well as District Superintendent Rev. Terri Benedett-Farmer. A highlight for the day was the presentation of the former church spire that topped the 14th and Washington Avenue church building! The spire had been restored by Golden First UMC member Ed Piburn!
